Claude Code pricing in India

Claude Code is not sold separately; it is included in Claude’s paid plans. Claude’s pricing page lists Pro at $20/month ($17/month billed annually), Max from $100/month, and Team Standard at $25 per seat monthly ($20 annually), all including Claude Code.

In July 2026 Anthropic introduced rupee pricing in India. Business Today reported Pro starting at ₹2,000/month, Max from ₹11,999/month and Team from ₹2,399 per user/month, with GST and local taxes included. Free Press Journal listed Max 20x at ₹23,999/month. Reports differ slightly on whether the Pro figure is the monthly or annual-billing rate and how GST is applied (Open Magazine quotes ₹2,033.05 plus GST billed monthly), so confirm the exact amount at checkout.

OpenAI Codex pricing in India

Codex comes with ChatGPT plans. According to OpenAI’s Codex pricing page, Free and Go ($8/month) include lightweight Codex use, Plus ($20/month) adds Codex on the web, CLI, IDE extension and iOS, and Pro starts at $100/month with $100, $200 and $500 options. Business is $25 per user billed monthly or $20 billed annually. Teams that prefer usage-based billing can use an API key instead.

In India, ChatGPT is billed in rupees. Opentherank, last verified on 7 October 2026, lists Plus at ₹1,999/month including 18% GST and Pro at ₹19,900/month. Earlier coverage of OpenAI’s India pricing appears in Croma Unboxed. We could not confirm a current rupee price for Go, so the table shows the USD conversion.

GitHub Copilot pricing in India

GitHub’s Copilot plans page lists:

  • Free: $0, with 2,000 completions per month and limited chat and agent use.
  • Pro: $10/month, unlimited completions, $15 of monthly AI credits.
  • Pro+: $39/month, $70 of monthly AI credits, and access to third-party agents.
  • Max: $100/month, $200 of monthly AI credits for heavy agent workflows.

Since mid-2026, chat, agent mode, code review and Copilot CLI draw on GitHub AI Credits, while completions remain unmetered on paid plans. We did not find an official rupee price for Copilot, so Indian developers pay the USD price, plus any GST and card forex fees.

Cursor pricing in India

Cursor’s pricing documentation lists Pro at $20, Pro Plus at $60 and Ultra at $200 per month (shown before tax), plus Teams Standard at $40 and Teams Premium at $120 per user.

India has a dedicated option: Cursor Start at ₹649/month, tax-inclusive and payable by UPI, credit or debit card. It includes Cursor’s own model pool, cloud agents, MCP servers, hooks and skills, but excludes the third-party frontier model pool, Bugbot, Auto and the Cursor SDK. The Next Web covered the launch.

Assumer pricing

Assumer is an AI coding agent by 4Born Solutions, built on OpenCode (MIT). Current pricing: Free, Pro $20/mo (placeholder pricing), which is roughly ₹1,940 per month before any applicable tax. Check the Assumer pricing page for the latest details.

assumer stats is useful for budgeting: it shows how many tokens and how much cost your sessions consume, so you can decide whether the free tier is enough.

Hidden costs Indian developers should know

GST

India charges 18% GST on digital subscriptions. Rupee prices from Anthropic, OpenAI and Cursor Start are listed as tax-inclusive. Many USD prices are shown before tax, so a $20 plan can come to roughly ₹2,280 once 18% GST is added (approximate, at ₹96.76/USD).

Forex and card fees

Paying a USD bill with an Indian card usually adds a foreign currency markup and possibly international transaction fees. These vary by bank and card, so check your card’s terms. Rupee billing and UPI avoid them.

Usage-based overages

Several tools now include a monthly credit pool and charge for usage beyond it. Watch usage dashboards, or use tools like assumer stats, to avoid surprise bills.

Exchange rate movement

USD-priced plans cost more in rupees when the rupee weakens. The figures here use the 8 October 2026 rate and will drift.

How to choose on a budget

Students and hobbyists

Start with free tiers: GitHub Copilot Free, Cursor Hobby, Gemini CLI’s free tier, or Assumer Free.

Individual professionals

Entry paid tiers (about ₹650 to ₹2,000 per month) cover most daily use. Choose based on workflow: editor (Cursor, Copilot), ChatGPT ecosystem (Codex) or terminal agent (Claude Code, Assumer).

Heavy agent users

Max, Pro+ and Ultra tiers (about ₹3,800 to ₹24,000 per month, more for the top ChatGPT Pro tier) make sense only if you regularly hit entry-tier limits. Measure usage for a month before upgrading.

Teams

Compare per-seat prices together with admin features, SSO and billing in INR. Claude Team in rupees and ChatGPT Business are the most directly comparable.

Several tools have free tiers, including GitHub Copilot Free, Cursor Hobby, ChatGPT Free with limited Codex use, and Assumer Free. Among paid plans, Cursor’s India-only Start plan at ₹649 per month and GitHub Copilot Pro at $10 per month are the lowest entry prices in this comparison.

Do I pay GST on AI coding tool subscriptions in India?
