Skills
Package reusable instructions as skills: a folder with a SKILL.md file that Assumer loads only when a task needs it, compatible with Claude Code skills.
A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file that teaches the agent how to do one kind of task, such as releasing a package, writing a migration or following your API style guide. Unlike a rules file, a skill is loaded only when it’s relevant, so it doesn’t use context the rest of the time.
Structure
my-skill/
SKILL.md # name, description and the instructions
scripts/ # optional helper scripts the instructions refer to
templates/ # optional files to copy or fill in
Start SKILL.md with a short description of when to use the skill. The agent uses it to decide whether to load the rest.
Using skills
- Browse available skills with
/skills. - The agent loads a matching skill automatically through the
skilltool, or you can ask for one by name. - Skills you already wrote for Claude Code (in
.claude/skills) are picked up too.
Turning external skills off
Set ASSUMER_DISABLE_EXTERNAL_SKILLS=1 to load only Assumer’s own skills, or ASSUMER_DISABLE_CLAUDE_CODE_SKILLS=1 to ignore Claude Code skills. See Environment variables.
